Homage to dubstep’s roots
One of dubstep’s leading visionaries on one of the sound’s most important labels, paying tribute to a club many would describe as its crucible. On ‘Plastic People’ Youngsta dials into dubstep at its foundational core — three stomach-churning lurchers, each one driving into slightly different territory. Right from the get-go, the title track drills into the mystique of the legendary space, spicing the low-end rumble with nimble rhythms and a spritely 2026 energy. ‘Velvet Rooms’ dials things back a touch, pushing the low-end to the front and surrounding it with a vortex of rattling drums. ‘3rd Base’ plots a new course again, veering into the East Asian sounds that the genre loves to occasionally flirt with. If all you know of Plastic People is the legend, these three tracks offer a tangible connection to an invaluable, magical moment in the history of London clubbing.
